Initial thoughts - educational model for sports gone?

Everyone must start with a first post, and it has been a long time since I set up this account, so here is my first post as a test of this blog tool.

I started this to allow a discussion about where sports have headed for kids in the K-12 age groups. Specifically, interscholastic sports programs which were to have been an educational extension of the schools. Clearly we have moved beyond that into an entertainment model instead of an educational model, which I do believe is ruining, or at least changing, the experience for most student-athletes.

Winning is a requirement, and even winning isn't good enough, crushing the opposition has become the new requirement.

If yo do not believe this, simply watch box scores or read the local papers and pay attention to words typically chosen to describe the games.

As I said, this is just a start so I'll hang it up for a moment and get this posted.
